build the village

A course to grow a sustainable ministry for families in the FTD.

It takes a village to raise a child. And churches have a wonderful opportunity to be this village – using their strengths and existing practices to reach and serve families.

  • Are you wanting your church to have a greater impact in the families?
  • Are you wanting to have a sustainable, long-term ministry for families?
  • Do you want to grow the team of people reaching and serving families?

Build the Village Academy is designed to help your church’s work to strengthen and support families. Our hope is that a year from now, your plans for a First Thousand Day (FTD) are a reality.  There is a team of people in Sikunye to journey with you and strengthen what you are planning to do in your church and community.

If you want to take your FTD activities or ministry to the next level, then we invite you to find out more about Build the Village.

Step 1: attend the information session

To build a sustainable ministry takes time and effort. The Build the Village Academy has a higher level of commitment compared to other Sikunye workshops. This information session will give you information about the course, the requirements, and answer any questions you might have. This is not the course, but rather helping you know whether you want to apply. Picture it like an ‘open day’ at a school.

26 June at 7pm – 8pm

Step 2: apply to be part of Build the Village Academy

If you are interested in taking this journey with Sikunye, you need to apply. Within a week of attending the information session, you will need to fill in an application form that will be sent to you if you attend the information session.

Spaces are limited, so be sure to apply in time! Not every church that applies will be offered a space in this group. If you can’t be part of this group, another group will be running later in the year.

Step 3: attend the training

If selected, you will need to be able to attend the following training events, hosted on Zoom from 7pm to 9pm:

  • 24 July
  • 31 July
  • 13 August
  • 21 August
  • 15 October (graduation)

In addition to these Zoom training sessions, there is one on one coaching sessions at a time that suits you.

Psalm 127: 3–5
“Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.”
